The cutting height of a tool holder is the distance between the bottom of the tool holder's comb and the tool holder's blade.

The cutting height and the resulting finish depend on:
- The cutting height of the head.
- The head design: it differs from one brand to another. Within the same brand, from 3 mm upwards, two different designs are offered.
- The type and density of hair that is cut.
- The way we position the machine during cutting.
