The future owner must provide a small "kit" including the essential elements for the dog with, first of all, a collar and a leash as well as two bowls, the first for food and the other for water. We prefer stainless steel or glass containers that are easy to clean because some dogs have skin allergies to plastic. Make sure that the dog always has fresh water at his disposal and that the bowls are always clean.
For coat care, regular brushing once or several times a week, depending on the type of dog, is necessary. This moment is more than a simple hygienic maintenance. Indeed, it allows the owner to make sure that his dog has no injuries or parasites and, above all, to forge bonds of trust useful for the good balance of the hierarchy.
The distribution of food is an essential time of the day. We will propose a food adapted to the animal according to its size, its age and its activity. The number of meals goes from four to two between 3 and 8 months to stabilize at one or two in adulthood. In large breeds, two meals are preferable in order to avoid the risk of stomach twisting; it is necessary to avoid the competition between several dogs during the meal.
The dog being the dominated in the hierarchy, he must accept that the master touches his bowl without growling. This is all the more important if the family has children. Also, from the start, it is necessary, for example, to interrupt the meal by lifting the bowl, to make the puppy sit down and then give him the food again. The puppy will only have the right to touch it on the order of its master. This training is long, given the ferocious appetite of these little beasts, but it is essential to guarantee the hierarchy. It is the pack leader who decides. Beside that, no food will be given outside the fixed hours. This, of course, requires everyone's participation.
