WHITE SHAMPOO AND SOLUTIONS FOR WHITENING HAIR

As you may have already noticed, white (or light-colored) hairs can quite easily turn yellow, pink, or even brown. This is due to their low pigmentation and depends on the environment and external factors (pollution, prolonged contact with urine, saliva, and other organic or natural soiling, etc.). It's rather unsightly, it must be said.

HOW DOES A WHITE SHAMPOO WORK?
Normally the sole objective should be to play on the complementarity of colors thanks to the optical brighteners that these shampoos contain. They vary from blue to violet depending on the brand.
Let's go back to primary school for a moment, and remember our drawing lessons, and the famous color wheel.
Purple is opposite yellow on the color spectrum. Therefore, purple shampoo will act as a color corrector on yellow to brown hair.
Unfortunately, beware, many manufacturers take advantage of this by using very aggressive formulations in their "whitening" shampoos. So, in addition to simply changing the color, they brutally strip the coat. At first glance, the dog appears even whiter... but beware of the adverse effects of this type of treatment. Even if it's not visible to the naked eye (it's more at the scale of the hair cuticle scales), you're destroying the barrier that ensures the coat's waterproofing. Very quickly, you'll notice a broken, almost "burned," or grayish and rough coat!
In the end, you will have a coat in a much worse state than it was initially.

IS WHITE SHAMPOO RIGHT FOR YOU?

While very effective, this shampoo is not suitable for all areas, or for everyday use! Its function is to neutralize unwanted tones, so it will have a counterproductive effect on hair that is already white: it could turn it grey or cause blue/purple tones to appear.

Our opinion on this:

White shampoo should not be used with every bath but as a specific supplement to remove yellowing from soiled areas.

The longer the application time, the stronger the anti-yellowing effect will be. Too long an application time risks resulting in distinctly blue/purple tones (which may or may not fade in the following days).

To put it simply, keep in mind that you're injecting a large amount of blue/violet pigment to counteract a yellow/brown tint. If you apply the same amount to a coat that's already very white, the risk is that the color will shift towards our pigments... that's where the gray/blue/violet tints and highlights appear.

WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE? WHY IS THIS MISADVANTAGEOUSLY OBSERVED?

Whether out of convenience or lack of knowledge, many groomers/owners of white or bicolored dogs and cats rush to buy every white shampoo that exists... as if it were the one and only grooming criterion for their animals!

Why not prioritize, as with any other individual, the action to be taken in terms of grooming:
nourish AND/OR volumize AND/OR texturize AND/OR soften AND/OR detangle AND/OR smooth etc etc etc.

Even if your goal is to prepare for a competition (grooming or beauty show), I assure you that before you're disqualified for yellowish highlights... you have other areas to focus on! There are often multiple points to prioritize when it comes to preparing a coat. It's unrealistic to focus solely on your "whiter than white" shampoo to succeed... You'll mostly waste your energy for very little result. Your stress level will increase, and you'll forget the most obvious objectives!

If your pet is in a truly "catastrophic" state, then instead of stripping its fur every two days with the harshest products possible, why not simply consider localized hair bleaching? We don't supply these kinds of products, but we can advise you on them when we see you're on the wrong track! Think about it...

OUR OPINION ON USING THESE SHAMPOOS

To summarize our thinking, be objective about the animal to be groomed; often a simple wash with a good shampoo (whose objective is not "colorimetric" but rather "specialized" in an action) but which will provide you with the best "post-brushing" result is so much more interesting.
However, it must be acknowledged that urine, saliva and impurities deeply soil certain localized areas (paws, belly, pants, etc.).

In this case, we can suggest that you work with a leave-in shampoo beforehand. Special Rinse between baths. This reduces the time dirt remains on the coat, and therefore how deeply it penetrates it. I even recommend applying this same product. Special Rinse on the areas you wish to bleach only... and only as a second shampoo. You can also try applying it for three minutes as a pre-shampoo mask with the Bio Energy Plus.

The rest of the time, work with more "specialized" products, thus avoiding any risk of uncontrolled color variation, and you really enjoy producing a successful grooming session as a whole.
And of course, it can't be stressed enough: a bath should always be finished with the application of a conditioning conditioner... even more so when you notice color problems on the fur!
